Pretty in Pink for Paint It Pink - Waterways Visitors Centre

Location icon white Grand Canal Dock Sat 1 Nov 2014, 8am to 8pm

Important Update. The screening will now be in Waterways Visitors Centre, not GCD Plaza because of rain.

Look what’s happening to the canals! Don't they look pretty in pink?

Waterways Ireland Happenings and Balloon Man are behind an event on Saturday, 1st of November which will turn Dublin’s canal pink while screening the perfect pink movie for one day only.

Hundreds of pink balloons will adorn the locks along the canal filling it with colour and turning the city pink. The event is being held in memory of members of the Plurabelle Paddlers who have died from breast cancer and to mark the finale of the Irish Cancer Society's Paint it Pink campaign which ran throughout the month of October.

9am-9pm: Canals and Grand Canal Dock decorated with Balloons! 4.00pm: Remembrance walk from Portobello Harbour to Waterways visitor centre in Grand Canal Dock 5.30pm: Welcome messages in Grand Canal Dock plaza before screening 5.45pm: Screening of Pretty in Pink in Waterways Ireland Visitor Centre.

Please join us for a remembrance walk at 4pm that afternoon from Portobello Bridge to the Waterways Visitor Centre in Grand Canal Dock for hot drinks. This will be followed by a free open-air screening of Pretty in Pink at 5.45pm taking place from the Happenings floating cinema in Grand Canal Dock with intro from Pretty in Pink star Andrew McCarthy. More info from www.happenings.ie

An open-air floating cinema screening of ‘Pretty in Pink’ will also be showcased on Saturday evening in Grand Canal Dock with eighties heart throb ‘Pretty in Pink’ star Andrew McCarthy giving a special message on screen in support of the event.

We are asking anyone passing along the canal or attending the screening on Saturday to take a picture using the hashtag #PINKPICS and post the photographs on social media.

Please text PINK to 50300 to donate €4 to the Irish Cancer Society to support all those affected by breast cancer.
